Last weekend on this side of the bookend for the year

My how time flies.  Its almost the end of the year and time for the holidays.  Christmas has definitely arrived in the big mango as one can see many stores and office buildings with large Christmas Tree displays.  Its always funny to me to see how Christmas is interpreted here in Asia.  Its seen as a great sales event and the hero is Santa Claus instead of the religious figure for whom the holiday is named after.  In this age of political correctness, there are even cards and ads that refer to 'Happy Holidays' for all those of other religions.

So in a way, I think the Thais have this whole holiday season right.  Most will just wish you a happy new year, which is totally free of religious implications and is politically correct.

Well, its just a bit of something to note as this is going to be my last weekend here in the mango this year.  Next week, I will be off to the other bookend for about six weeks for some business and personal affairs.  The tax man in waiting for his share of my spoils and paper work and forms have until the 30th of January to arrive.  Then two quick weeks of tax work and then back to the Mango in mid February.

I don't look forward to the cold weather, but it will be good to be back to see the kids and get a different perspective of the event we call "Christmas' from the other bookend.
